Led by Leader Woo Jiseong, the Urban Design BU specializes in new town development urban planning and masterplans, improvement and district unit planning for established cities, as well as policy and research projects related to urban architecture. The unit conducts architectural projects that offer rational solutions from an urban perspective. Bringing extensive expertise in residential design, urban planning and masterplans, and policy and research projects, Woo is currently leading the Anyang-Maegok Public Housing District Master Plan, Asan-Tangjeong 2 New Town Master Plan, Ulsan-Seonbawi Public Housing District Integrated Urban-Architectural Plan, the Urban Master Plan for Uiwang-Gunpo-Ansan Public Housing District, and other new town development projects like Jecheon-Gangjeo District 2.
After graduating from the Konkuk University’s Graduate School of Architecture, Woo worked at Archiplan before joining Junglim Architecture in 2003. He previously served as Design Division 6 Leader responsible for residential design and now leads the Urban Design BU. With over 20 years of experience in residential and urban planning projects, Woo has led award-winning projects such as the LH Village Improvement-type Integrated Urban-Architectural Master Plan and the Urban Public Housing Complex Project near Yongma Tunnel. His completed projects include SH Sangye & Jangam District Apartments; SH Macheon District Multifamily Housing; Hyunjin Everville, Halla Vivaldi Yongjeong, Woomi Lyn Edupark District 1 and 2 in Cheongju; Raemian Solvenue (Samik Green Apartments Reconstruction); Raemian I-Park Banpo Seocho (Hanyang Apartments Reconstruction); and Miseong Apartments Reconstruction, Jamsil.
Rather than simply constructing physical buildings, Woo reads the trajectories and lifestyles of people creating the social landscape of an era and finds value in how they live and interact, seeking to propose solutions and future visions based on professional expertise.
